IT WOULD BAN EVICTIONS FOR
TENANTS THAT HAVE NOT PAID THEIR
RENT SINCE MARCH 1st
. IT WOULD PROTECT THEM
THROUGH JANUARY 31st,
2021. THEONE CAVEAT IS THEY HAVE
TO PAY 25% OF RENT OWED DURING THAT
TIME.
THE LEGISLATION DOES NOT
FORGIVE MISSED PAYMENTS AND TENANTS WILL
STILL OWE THAT MONEY IN FULL.
LANDLORDS CAN ASK THE TENANT TO PAY IT BACK BUT
THEY CAN'T ASK
A JUDGE FOR AN EVICTION
SOLELY FOR NOT PAYING RENT IN IT
FULL. THEY WOULD HAVE TO SIGN A
DOCUMENT UNDER PENALTY OF
PERJURY THAT SAYS THEY HAVE
EXPERIENCED FINANCIAL
HARDSHIP DUE TO
COVID-19. WE REACHED OUT TO THE SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA RENTAL
HOUSING ASSOCIATION BASED RIGHT HERE IN
SAN DIEGO WHICH REPRESENTS
PROPERTY OWNERS AND THEY SAID,
WE WERE HOPEFUL THAT
LEGISLATION WOULD COME TO FRUITION AND
CREATE A STATEWIDE
FRAMEWORK FOR
TENANTS WHO ARE TRULY IN NEED
THAT ALSO PROTECTS PROPERTY
OWNERS FROM FINANCIAL
RUIN. THE BILL APPROVED BY THE
